5 San Diego Summer Activities That Are Fun for the Whole Family

Are you planning to take a family trip this summer? Why not consider visiting the beautiful city of San Diego, California!

Over the years, San Diego has become a top U.S. travel destination. It hosts almost 35.8 million visitors each year, making $11.5 billion annually from its tourists.

And for good reasons, too. With the number of things to see and do in San Diego, a family will never have the opportunity to get bored. This year especially, the San Diego summer activities are as adventurous and fun as you are!

So what are you waiting for? Get out your planner and start making plans to attend some fun things around this bustling city!

1. Balboa Park

Balboa Park in San Diego is where “culture, science, and nature collide.” It’s a National Historic Landmark that hosts much of San Diego’s history plus more.

This is a perfect spot for the whole family. Enjoy museums, witness amazing architecture, take tours, visit the birds. Check out their events online for select films, concerts, and more.

2. The San Diego Zoo

The San Diego Zoo is home to anything from a babirusa (that’s a “pig-deer”), to a bromeliad garden, and then some! Visit their beautiful animals and see what plants and flowers the zoo has to offer, too.

One ticket includes a visit to the zoo, a guided bus tour, entrance to all regularly-scheduled shows, and more.

For an added adventure, check out the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. A separate ticket is required, but it is worth the cost! Learn about wildlife conservation on guided safari tours and see amazing wildlife up close and personal.

3. The San Diego Symphony’s Bayside Summer Nights

This one is for music lovers! The San Diego Symphony hosts a series of Bayside Summer Nights throughout the season. Performances include the likes of Common, the B-52s, Lyle Lovett, and more.

You can buy full-price tickets at any time — or you can get a discounted package deal.

Concerts take place all summer and at varying locations, so check out their schedule online for more information!

4. The San Diego Museum of Art

If you have any art buffs in your group, be sure to check out the recent exhibits at The San Diego Museum of Art.

The museum’s mission is to “inspire, educate, and cultivate curiosity” — perfect for people of all ages. You can currently find things such as Art of East Asia, Arts of Iran, and Art and Empire: The Golden Age of Spain. Keep an eye out on their website to see current and upcoming exhibits!

5. La Jolla’s Underwater Park

What better way to beat the summer heat than at the La Jolla Underwater Park?

It’s enormous, spanning 6,000 acres of ocean and shore, giving your family plenty of space to discover and play. Visit the underwater canyon and witness tons of marine life. Other activities include kayaking, snorkeling, and scuba diving.

This destination is one that you won’t want to miss out on!
