1. December Nights
December Nights is the largest free holiday festival in San Diego, so it’s no surprise that it made it to the top of our list. It’s held in Balboa Park on the first Friday and Saturday in December.
The scene is set with a beautifully-decorated Christmas tree and amazing light displays. Of course, there are also tons of attractions here, including local crafts stands and holiday performances.
2. Roots of Giving Fair
If you’re looking for a truly special holiday gift, head over to the Roots of Giving Fair at Point Loma Nazarene University.
Here, local artisans and business owners come together to sell their goods. Not only is this a great one-stop shopping trip for holiday gifts, but the fair is focused on ethically made products, so you can truly feel good about your purchase.
3. Jungle Bells
There’s no better way to spend an afternoon than at the San Diego Zoo! Of course, they also get into the holiday spirit by hosting Jungle Bells every year.
During this event, the Northern Frontier is transformed into the Holiday Forest with Christmas lights and decorated trees. There are also musicians, dancers, carolers, and even an animal-themed rendition of “The Night Before Christmas”.
4. San Diego Bay Parade of Lights
The San Diego Bay Parade of Lights puts a fun twist on a traditional holiday parade. Instead of riding down the streets, this is a boat parade that takes place on the San Diego Bay!
Every year, it takes on a unique theme, with 2019’s theme being “Comic-Con on the Bay”! While there are plenty of places you can see this parade from, the best vantage points are on the shore areas of Embarcadero, Harbor Island, Seaport Village, and Coronado.
5. Rady Children’s Ice Rink
Who says you can’t enjoy a winter wonderland in San Diego? From mid-November through the beginning of January, Liberty Station holds Rady Children’s Ice Rink (formally called Fantasy on Ice).
For only $15 ($13 for children), you get to enjoy a fun day of ice skating. But the best part is that all proceeds go to the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children’s Hospital.
